NUFC make contact with club over deal to sign Belgian international in January – Report

According to The Chronicle, Rafa Benitez has ‘asked’ Liverpool about Divokc Origi’s availability ahead of the January transfer window – with the striker believed to be available for us to sign on a permanent basis.

The piece also mentions fellow Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke, however he may be an unrealistic option in January, with him said to be available on a temporary basis and us having no domestic loans available to use (Rondon and Kenedy are our allocated two).

Back to Origi and he was a player who we’ve been continually linked with over the past few windows. Interest was confirmed over the summer, however we ended up going with Rondon and Muto, leaving the Belgian striker struggling for game time at Liverpool.

Here’s a snippet from The Chronicle’s piece, mentioning how Rafa is now using his contacts ahead of what promises to be a crucial January window:

“The 58-year-old is thought to have asked about the situation Liverpool strikers Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke find themselves in, neither of who have featured prominently for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

“Origi – who has been linked with Galatasaray and Everton – is expected to be available on a permanent basis in January, though Solanke is more likely to depart Anfield on loan.”

With news that Rafa will be having to shop on a limited budget again, this may all depend on Liverpool’s asking price – although Origi is in desperate need of a move.

He’s currently way down the pecking order, being behind the likes of Firmino and Sturridge, however he’s not done badly at all when he’s been given a chance by Jurgen Klopp.

Considering most of his appearances came from the bench, he did well to get into double figures in both, scoring 11 in 2016/17 and 10 in 2015/16.

Would you be keen to sign the Belgian in January or is this another unproven striker who could not guarantee goals?
