NUFC reporter reveals THREE signings Benitez is now expecting to complete in January

Rafa Benitez wants a MINIMUM of three new signings in the January window according to The Chronicle’s Mark Douglas – with the Spaniard expecting to sign a new striker, a number 10 and a left-back in the new year.

With us in the bottom three, without a win in our first TEN league games and desperately struggling for goals after blanking in our last two, it’s fair to say that a January boost may be essential if we’re to beat the drop

Here’s a snippet from The Chronicle’s latest piece on the transfer front, confirming that a striker is top of Rafa’s January wish-list – with a number 10 and left-back also wanted:

A striker is top of Rafa Benitez’s January hit-list – with the Newcastle United boss looking to bring in at least three players in the window to inject some fresh impetus into his struggling side.

Benitez wants a forward, competition for Ayoze Perez’s number ten shirt and a left-back as a minimum in the January window.

And while there is uncertainty over his budget, he hopes the return of Mike Ashley to United matches will help him and managing director Lee Charnley to get some of his targets signed off.

United are looking around Europe for solutions to their attacking problems with Benitez scouting loan options as well as players who could sign on a permanent basis.

With Rafa said to be wanting a minimum of three (a striker, a number 10 and a left-back), I would guess that a winger and a central midfielder may also be on his radar.

Ritchie and Kenedy have not been at it so far this season and Murphy and Atsu have no offered enough in reserve either, whilst the likes of Diame, Ki and Hayden haven’t made any real impact.

That being said, it’d be silly to expect more than Rafa’s top three targets when Ashley’s involved.

A striker and number 10 is essential to me – especially the latter given Perez’s poor showings so far.
