THREE bold changes Benitez could now make for Watford – Would you be happy with this?

With Saturday’s game with Watford fast approaching, we’ve had a look at some of the changes Rafa Benitez could make this weekend – with something needing to be done after yet another toothless attacking display at Southampton.

We’ve not scored in FOUR of our last five games, we’re still without a win and we’ve lost all five of our games at St James’ Park this season, so it could be time for the Spaniard to ring the changes.

Here’s THREE he might just make on Saturday:

Rondon IN – Perez OUT

Rondon and Muto look like they could compliment each other very well, with one providing the power and hold up play and the other offering pace and intelligent movement. That combined with the fact Perez is offering nothing (and serving to frustrate the home crowd as much as anything) may see Rafa opt with Muto just off Rondon – but only IF the big Venezuelan is deemed fit enough to start.

Murphy IN – Ritchie OUT

Ritchie was very poor at Southampton. He looks tired and isn’t having the impact on games he once was, struggling to keep up with Yedlin when he gets going and going missing in games.

We lack pace and players able to unsettle teams and while Murphy is still raw, he’d certainly have a go. I remember him being our only standout player in our 0-3 home defeat to them last season. He caused them problems and could do again here given a chance.

Ki Sung-yueng IN – Diame OUT

Diame may be solid off the ball, doing the dirty work well in behind Jonjo Shelvey, but he’s been very sloppy on the ball of late. Ki has his limitations defensively, but he is a very tidy footballer and one who always tends to look forward when he received the ball.

With us struggling to score goals and lacking attacking threat, he may be re-introduced to partner Shelvey – a player he knows well from his Swansea days.

Potential startign line-up (4-4-1-1):  Dubravka – Yedlin, Lascelles, Fernandez, Dummet – Murphy, Shelvey, Ki, Kenedy – Muto – Rondon.

What do you make of these potential changes folks? Would you be happy if Rafa went with this?

  1. I would also think about Longstaff and Sorensen on the bench as possible change players, they need to be blooded and bows as good a time as any with two home games.

  3. Isn’t Sorensen in his 20s ? Surely time for a run. And Longstaff in there with shelvey. Can’t keep playing non performing players.
