Jamaal Lascelles has faced some heavy criticism for his recent comments about “nice guy” Mike Ashley and although this has been forgotten about following Saturday’s win, I was appalled by some reactions from so called NUFC ‘fans’.
Give the lad a break. I am not a Mike Ashley fan, but surely Lascelles is entitled to his opinion – especially when he was quite clearly just commenting on what he made of Mike Ashley as a person during a two-hour dinner date.
This is perhaps the FIRST time he has EVER spoke slightly out of line since he arrived at the club, and even then, his comments were naive, not malicious.
Just look at some of these tweets following his comments:
Can’t wait to boo Lascelles today #nufc

Here’s another one I saw from @fttw_ on Twitter (I can’t copy the tweet in as it includes expletives!):
“Lascelles can get f***** with his comments. 11 years of Nice Guy Mike being the entire reason we’re divided, when you’ve tried for ‘unity’ and been relentlessly told to f*** o**.
“I assume Mike was still a nice guy when he was refusing to sign off your bonus.

Lascelles attitude stinks. Sell him.

Lascelles is a sell out pass it on

These are just a few I found, but there were plenty at the time saying we must drop him, sell him in January and strip him of the captaincy! Unbelievable.
The choice is simple, ‘Support the club, manager and players no matter what’ or stay away. The time will come to get Ashley out, but for now the players need our support. Saturday was proof of what we can achieve if everyone gets behind the club.
