According to Alan Nixon – the football reporter who broke the story saying Fernandez was signing from Swansea – Newcastle are ‘trying’ to agree a price to sign MLS star and highly-rated No.10 Miguel Almiron.
At the back end end of last month, the reporter claimed that Rafa had ‘money to spend’ and was pushing to sign the Paraguayan in January – and he’s stated this week that we are still in negotiations when asked for an update from a NUFC fan on Twitter.
With us lacking quality, pace and spark in the final third, a player like Almiron could be an ideal signing (especially when we have so little options in the number 10 role), but signing a player of his potential will not come cheap – with several big clubs having been credited with interest recently.
Who knows if anything will come of this – and history suggests no when it comes to big money signings and Mike Ashley – however we will need to spend over £14m sooner rather than later if we want to stay up.
The 24-year-old has 13 goals and 12 assists over the latest MLS season, with many believing he’s ready to take the leap into English football.
A lot of reports saying he’s already agreed terms with Arsenal so doubt this is true but he’s a brilliant player

Would the January window be the best time to sign him ? players coming from other leagues or other countries generally need time to settle and adjust to the pace and intensity of the Premier League, maybe a summer signing with a bit more time to bed him in.
