Club keen to sign Ayoze Perez in a deal that would reunite him with ex-NUFC teammate – Report

According to Spanish media outlet ‘El Gol Digital’, Real Sociedad are keen to sign Ayoze Perez – a move that would see him reunite with ex-Mag Mikel Merino.

It is thought they are keen to sign the Spanish forward to replace former NUFC target Sandro Ramirez who has failed to impress since arriving on loan from Everton in the summer.

The same source has recently claimed that La Liga side Real Betis were weighing up a move for Perez, suggesting a few La Liga sides have their eye on the attacker who ended last season as our top scorer with 10 goals in all comps.

It does seem very unlikely Rafa will sell Perez in January unless a suitable replacement is found. We are short of players in the number 10 role as it is already and could do with someone to compete with the Spaniard rather than replace him.

That said , I wouldn’t be opposed to us cashing in on the forward in the future. He has had a hit and miss career on Tyneside so far for me and has never REALLY reached the heights that we hoped. He has stayed loyal to us through a relegation, however.

We brought him in for around £1.5m, so ‘we’ would definitely make a big profit on him – although that would mean nothing to us fans if the money was not reinvested.

Perez seems to enjoy life at NUFC but would no doubt be tempted by a move to his home country.
