Claudio Ranieri makes unbelievable claim about Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic – Wow..

New Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri believes Aleksandar Mitrovic is ‘one of the best’ strikers in the world – a statement a fair few Newcastle fans may strongly disagree with.

These comments came after Fulham’s 3-2 win over Southampton yesterday, with the Serbian scoring twice to help Ranieri get off to a perfect start after replacing Slavisa Jokanovic at Fulham over the international break.

Here’s what he’s had to say about the 24-year-old following his impressive display on Saturday (brace yourselves!):

“For me Aleksandar Mitrovic is one of the best strikers in Europe.

“And when I say Europe I mean all of the world.”

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve watched Mitrovic put in some outstanding all-round displays since he made the £20m plus move to Craven Cottage over the summer, and he was terrific again on Saturday, but to say these post-match comments from Ranieir are over the top is an understatement.

As I say, he was brilliant against Southampton, bullying their back four, linking the play very well and looking deadly in front of goal, but he’s got a long way to go yet before he can be considered an elite striker.

That being said, Saturday saw him take his tally for the Premier League season up to seven – meaning those who questioned Benitez’s decision to sell him will no doubt be making their feelings known.

It’s probably time for us to move on from Mitro, but I just couldn’t ignore these comments from Ranieri.

Does he actually believe this, or is this an attempt to put an arm around the Serbian and make him feel loved? Something Rafa showed no interest in doing during their time together on Tyneside..

  1. Newcastle made a HUGE **** up selling Mitro. He’s also the top scorer in the Nations League. 20 mill is a snip!!!

  2. Rafa demands professionalism from his players and that means several things, one of which is that they respect the coach, that means an attitude of deferment, concentrating and trying to do exactly what the coach says (even if you don’t agree), and always putting the coach’s game plan ahead of your own playing style or preferences.
Mitro couldn’t do any of that. He did try, …sporadically, …and failed more often than not. And Rafa did try to work with him, but lost patience with his volatility, lost confidence in his lack of discipline and lost belief that Mitro would ever mature enough to get the best (or anything) out of him.
Best thing, all round, that they move on from each other.

  3. The truth hurts Olly, doesn’t it. Fulham even played counter attacking football. Mitro scored twice, defended well, and as usual his hold up play was superior. Few if any strikers had a better 2018 than Mitro!!! Benitez was flat out wrong about him. Oh, and by the way no discipline issues to speak of.

  4. Respectfully disagree Pete, Rafa never worked with him. In fact he wouldn’t even give him a chance to play on a team that couldn’t score goals, playing Joselu instead. The best thing that happened to Mitro was getting out of Newcastle. No discipline problems, just goals scine then! What a 2018 he has had.

  6. He scores 2 goals on Saturday & all the mitrovic lovers come up from the hole in the ground that they’ve been hiding in, what had he done up till then after a good opening spell at the start of the season, answer , not mutch. He’s **** & will always be ****.

  7. So Fulham have played one game more than us, are 5 places behind and 10 down on us on goal difference – and we’re supposed to be whinging because they have one of our rejects?

Rafa and Mitro have both said that Mitro was not up to marching to Rafa’s drum, ie , not capable of covering the required ground to help out in defence. They’ve let in 33 and we’ve conceded 15.

    Oddly, I’m not feeling envious.

THe only thing worse than being concerned about losing Mitrovic would be if he was replaced by a striker from a team that was relegated

  8. Having watched the highlights on MoD, I would have to say that it was perhaps the extremely bad defence of Southampton that made Mitro look like a world beater! They were slow square and afraid to tackle anyone.
I loved his passion, but his positional play at NUFC was poor.

  9. Seriously, I don’t know what is wrong with Newcastle fans. Mitrović is a Fulham player now and you should just move on instead of bashing the man every time someone gives a statement about his ability. He worked his *** off to show some kind of improvement since he came to Newcastle but SOME of you narrow-minded Newcastle fans are looking at him through Benitez-Ashley problem and that’s the main problem, as if he somehow represents your fat owner. He is sharing the second place as the leagues top scorer. He’s scored more than Arnautovic, Lacazzete, Vardy, Sane, Mane… Let the man play and enjoy his football and stop being bunch a wankers by trashing his name every single week. Just stop and move on ffs. 🙄

If you read the article in full you’d see that I’ve praised how well he’s done this season. I was very impressed with how he played on Saturday – BUT, does this mean Ranieri’s comments are suddenly right? Absolutely not.

Are you telling me he’s honestly one of the best strikers in the world?

I’m not saying that Ranieri’s claim was right or not. I’m just saying that it’s not up to Newcastle fans to judge him anymore. It’s over. Just look at this moron’s comment “He’s **** & will always be ****”. Yeah right, Nations League top goalscorer is trash. I’ve seen hundreds of comments bashing Mitrovic in past few months, although he never said anything bad about the club. He was (and still is) Newcastle supporter and he still gets this kind of treatment. Really? I can’t believe there are so many butthurt Newcastle fans. It’s just sad.
