Club set to make January bid for NUFC defender – & he looks almost certain to leave – Report

According to reports in Italy, Genoa are now set to reignite their interest in forgotten Newcastle defender Achraf Lazaar in January – and he looks almost certain to leave if an offer does in fact arrive.

Not only did he state in a recent interview that he is getting himself ‘ready’ to leave the club should a club come calling in January, it was also reported just last week that Newcastle are now prepared to sell him on the cheap to get him off our books.

Serie A side Genoa looked all set to sign the Moroccan over the summer, and although that deal collapsed at the 11th hour, it looks like they’ll finally get their man in January.

For some, Lazaar hasn’t been given enough of a chance, but the fact we’ve been short of left-back options over the last few years and he STILL hasn’t managed to get anywhere near the team suggests he’s doing very little to impress Rafa.

He appears to have knuckled down in a bid to impress Rafa, with him requesting to play for the U-23’s in recent months, however I’ve read since that he’s made little impact – and the fact he wasn’t even on the bench on Monday after Paul Dummett’s injury says it all.

  1. He’s struggling to be a regular with the U23s. He should be monstering that comp and he should be an on-field leader for the younger lads. Rafa’s all but admitted he was lied to by his scouting network and that Lazaar is simply not good enough. I think Rafa is personally and professionally offended and embarrassed by the people who duped him into taking Lazaar on. He knows it might not actually be the lad’s fault, but I doubt there is anyway Rafa will play him.
