New name linked with January move to NUFC – Benitez eyeing deal for Brazilian-born left-back?

According to the Sunday People, Newcastle are considering a move to sign Olympiacos left-back Leonardo Koutris.

We all know that we desperately need additional cover in full-back areas, with our lack of depth highlighted by our struggle to cope without the injured Paul Dummett, and it’s now being reported that we sent scouts to watch Koutris in Europa League action for Olympiacos ahead of a potential January bid.

Whether anything comes of this remains to be seen, but with Koutris impressing at Olympiacos, aged at 23 (being someone who fits into the club’s buying blue print) and likely to be a budget option, it sounds like the sort of deal Benitez could be forced to look at while Ashley’s in charge.

Interestingly, we’ve recently been spotted watching Olympiacos midfielder Mady Camara – so Koutris may have caught the eye during these scoutings trips (or vice versa).

The defender is Brazilian born, but has recently earned his first call-up to the Greek national side.
