Some potentially huge news has emerged from Paraguayan reporter Roberto Rojas tonight, who claims that Miguel Almiron’s move to Newcastle is all but done – stating he now looks set to sign on loan in January with an option to buy for ‘around £15m’.
This comes just a week on from reports that our head of recruitment (Steve Nickson) flew out to the US to negotiate a deal for the highly-rated number 10, with any deal being a huge coup for the club given the MLS star had been linked with big money moves to the likes of Spurs and Arsenal.
Here’s what Rojas has just tweeted in the last few moments:
“Hearing from sources that Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron to Newcastle United is a done deal.
“There are a few things left to be done but probably will join in the winter transfer window.
“Possibly a loan deal with an option to buy of around £15m at the end of the season.”

Almiron has 13 goals and 13 assists in the MLS this season and has been tipped to shine at Premier League level, with him said to be possess impressive pace and skill – something we’ve sorely lacked in attacking midfield areas so far this season.
Here’s hoping this one is true – with the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder refusing to deny the news, instead confirming that Nickson IS in America in a bid to secure the deal as we speak.
#nufc head of recruitment Steve Nickson is in the US at the moment working on Almiron deal. Claims from Atlanta the deal is close. That would be a massive boost given the uncertainty plunged around the club in last 48 hours. #mls

Believe it when he’s photographed holding up an NUFC shirt with his name and squad number on it

Sharpy17, you cynic, you. I can’t disagree.
I want to see him hold up the shirt, in the middle of St James Park, without a Sports Direct sign in sight. That really would be something to celebrate. 😛

For a done deal there’s still stuff to be done with way too much probably and possible in there for my liking
The Kenyon takeover looks more likely than this at the moment.
