Chelsea could be set to make big January bid for ex-NUFC flop – Report

According to France Football, Chelsea have been scouting former Newcastle flop Florian Thauvin, with the winger admitting that he’ll consider quitting Marseille if they don’t qualify for the Champions League this season.

As we know the £40m-rated Frenchman looked way out of his depth in his spell on Tyneside, looking far too lightweight and making very little impact in the short space of time he had with us.

In his defence, he was in a struggling side managed by Steve McClaren and was in and out of a struggling team, but his heart was never in it for me – and that’s showed when you see how well he’s done since returning to France.

Since leaving us he’s had a massive upturn in form, scoring 33 goals in his last 50 games for Marseille and being part of France’s World Cup winning squad!

It will be interesting to see how he would do if he returned to the Premier League, but I would struggle to see how he would get in the team ahead of the likes of Willian and Hazard – even if he now is rated as a £40m player in his own right.

  1. Sarri at Chelsea will not go for Thauvin, he is too soft, dives all over the place, and doesn’t have enough aggression to play in the Premier league…
Didn’t you see him at the Toon, soft Poof!
