You’re not going to believe Paul Merson’s prediction for Newcastle vs Fulham

Paul Merson has absolutely slated Saturday’s opponents Fulham in his latest prediction piece, with him going for a 3-0 win for Newcastle – meaning he’s expecting a rare emphatic win for us this weekend.

Merson usually take great pleasure in predicting  defeat for us, and is starting to get a reputation for getting predictions horribly wrong – so it’s actually quite worrying that he has predicted a big win for us!

Here’s what he’s had to say during his latest piece for Sky – stating that it will be a home win ‘without doubt’:

“Newcastle. Without a doubt.

“You’re never going to stay up if you can’t keep a clean sheet. West Ham beat Fulham in second gear, a struggling Manchester United the week before were 3-0 up in no time.

“Huddersfield have got a chance of staying up because they may only need to score one goal to win a football match, with a good defence, but Fulham need to score two or three each week to even get near.

“I really can’t see Fulham keeping a clean sheet between now and the end of the season. They could be cut adrift, it’s getting to that stage of the season. I’m not sure what this appointment of Claudio Ranieri has brought Fulham.

“Newcastle 3-0 Fulham”

Despite Fulham’s leaky defence and poor form of late, I find it hard to see us scoring 3 and winning so comfortably. Fulham have a decent record at St James’ Park and we have lost 7 of 9 home games this season, so I think it will be a lot closer than Merson is predicting.

He either really doesn’t rate Fulham whatsoever , or he has been on the Christmas sherry a little bit early!

Either way, let’s hope he’s right, with any win (never mind a 3-0 demolition) being the perfect early Xmas present for us Mags.
