NUFC eyeing January double deal with Leeds as Rafa makes 13-goal striker his ‘top target’ – Report

According to The Sun, Rafa wants to sign Leeds star Kemar Roofe in the January window – making the in-form striker his ‘top target’ despite their unwillingness to sell.

This could mean a potential double-deal with Leeds, with the Championship leaders said to be pursuing a deal to bring goalkeeper Karl Darlow the other way – however I’d be VERY surprised if they sold their star striker.

Roofe has scored an impressive 13 goals in 18 games this season, helping Leeds to maintain their spot in the Championship’s automatic promotion places, but I really can’t see Rafa being given any amount of funds required to sign him – and I’m not convinced he’d want him in the first place, let alone make him his ‘top target’.

He is Leeds’s prize asset and a key man in their promotion push, so would demand a large transfer fee, something which I highly doubt Mike Ashley will provide – especially not on a second tier player unproven at this level.

Roofe’s record in the Championship is no better than Dwight Gayle’s who we willingly let go on loan to West Brom, so I can’t see the logic in forking out cash on a player that may not have much of an impact.

I personally think we should be looking for a proven Premier League goalscorer – although they don’t come cheap and therefore seem so unlikely to sign given Ashley’s reluctance to spend.

Unfortunately, it looks like we may be relying on bargains from abroad and a loan from Europe (with our two domestic loan deals used up in signing Kenedy and Rondon).
