NUFC interested in £9m deal to sign striker who’s scored 20 goals in 17 games this season – Report

According to TuttoMercato, Newcastle are showing interest in a deal to sign in-form Senegalese international Mbaye Diagne – with the striker said to be available for just £9m despite his stunning form this season.

Diagne, 27, is currently the top scorer in the Turkish league, having bagged an outstanding 20 goals in just 17 Super Lig games this season – ELEVEN more than any other player in the division.

It’s an impress record – with him also scoring a respectable 12 goals in 17 games last season with Kasimpasa – and the price tag seems affordable given Rafa is rarely allowed to spend double figures, however it would still be a risky signing.

As prolific as he’s been over the past 18 months, there’s never a guarantee that a late bloomer who’s scoring goals in the Turkish league will be able to do it in the Premier League.

Diagne stands 6ft 3′ tall, so looks to have the sort of stature and build to suggest he could play in a lone striker role, however an unproven striker from a lesser league stinks of the sort of risk Rafa will be forced to take in the market this month.

Here’s him in action:
