Benitez unsure about this NUFC player’s ‘character & application’ – Is this why it’s all gone wrong?

According to the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez holds serious reservations about Rolando Aarons’ ‘character and application’ – suggesting these are the two reasons the talented young winger has failed to feature in the Spaniard’s plans.

Benitez demands 100% commitment from what is an honest, hard working squad and it’s clear Aarons career has went backwards rapidly over the last three years.

As well as his character, you also have to question his ability as now at 23, he struggled to make any sort of impact in the Czech top tier. He is a million miles away from the exciting talent that was set to be the next big thing to come through at NUFC, and it’s no surprise that Rafa’s said he is ‘available’ in the January window.

With our current struggles on the flanks, it really is a shame to the Aaron’s plight. Here’s a snippet from a recent piece in the Chronicle following Aarons’ return to Tyneside:

Some Newcastle fans have pleaded on social media for Benitez to reintegrate Aarons into the first-team set-up after the winger’s loan deal at Slovan Liberec ended last month.

The 23-year-old is back on Tyneside and has been training with the Under-23s at the club’s Academy, though he has not been included in either Benitez’s Premier League squad or Ben Dawson’s reserve list for the campaign, either.

During his time in the Czech Republic, Aarons made 12 league appearances but failed to score, and he was not an automatic starter for Liberec, either.

It seems unlikely, therefore, that the winger will have done enough during that loan spell to convince Benitez he is ready to earn another first-team chance during the second half of the campaign – especially considering the Newcastle manager is understood to hold reservations over Aarons’ character and application.

There is clearly no way back for Aarons now at Newcastle and you fear his next club will be a big reality check for him; not many will want to take the gamble after such a dismal showing in such a poor league over the last six months.

One of many big failures of the 11 year Ashley regime is the total lack of options coming through the academy into the first team, so it is even more frustrating to see Aarons fall from grace – especially if it is due to attitude issues.

  1. this is the same squad of players who finished 10th last season…

The whole place seems to be on a real downer which is usually how you get relegated, we either all stick together or down we go…….Ashley is just one man, One man who appears to have defeated the whole Geordie nation……FFS
