Aston Villa now looking to do January deal with NUFC – Report

According to the Mirror, Aston Villa are now showing interest in signing Isaac Hayden this month – despite seeing West Brom have a loan bid rejected by Rafa Benitez.

The story states that Rafa rates Hayden highly and is reluctant to lose him, however the player himself reiterated his desire to leave just last week – despite him now being back in the first-team.

It seems clear that he wants out and needs to go for personal reasons (which are clearly affecting his performance and have done for a while it would seem), but our lack of cover in this position is stopping Rafa from sanctioning any deal – and rightly so.

Shelvey and Diame are both nursing niggling injuries and Ki is away at the Asian Cup for another few weeks at least, so we can’t really afford to let a central midfielder go unless another one comes in.

Any normal owner would find a replacement and let Hayden leave, but Ashley isn’t proactive enough to do that. Rafa can barely convince him to sign a much needed number 10 or left-back, never mind a back up midfielder.

I can see why we’ve rejected West Brom’s loan offer as I don’t know how that benefits us at all, but if they or Villa offered decent money then it could be worth letting him go – but only on the basis that Benitez is given that money and has a replaced lined up.
