Club make move to sign Abdulkadir Omur – the no.10 dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’ – Report

According to reports in Turkey, Newcastle have made enquiries over a deal to sign Trabzonspor star Abdulkadir Omur after Benitez urged club officials to sign the man dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’.

The 19-year-old playmaker is rated as one of the biggest prospects in Turkey, captaining their U-21 side and playing regularly in the Super Lig over the past few seasons.

He has 2 goals and 4 assists from midfield this season, bagging 3 goals and 6 assists in 29 games last season as an 18-year-old.

Here’s a snippet from Sports Witness’ latest piece, with reports from Turkey suggesting that Rafa is desperate to sign the Turkish talent:

Trabzon based newspaper Karadeniz Gazetesi claims Newcastle United are making enquiries with regards to signing Trabzonspor midfielder Abdulkadir Omur – who’s been dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’.

According to Karadeniz Gazetesi, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is keen to sign Omur and the Spaniard wants the club to do everything they can to secure the signature of the player.

However, also according to the regional newspaper, Newcastle United will face competition from Liverpool and La Liga side Espanyol for the 19 year old.

Trabzonspor president Ahmet Agaoglu has recently confirmed they haven’t received any offers from Liverpool for Omur but said a couple of English mid table clubs are interested in the Turkish youngster.

He looks one hell of a player for his age (see impressive clips below which really do make you realise why he’s being compared to Messi), however this one seems out of our reach on a number of levels.

Not only have Liverpool been heavily linked, but it sounds like he’s a player who’ll demand big money – and I don’t see us paying that on a 19-year-old (and perhaps rightly so given he’s yet to prove himself in any of Europe’s top leagues).

Here’s the ‘Turkish Messi’ in action:

  1. We don’t need a 19 yo. We need an experienced relegation scraper.
This kid would definitely flourish under the long term, carefully nurtured management of Rafa, but he won’t steady the ‘ship under crisis’ or graft us out chance after chance, he won’t win us matches or help us avoid losing them, not from day one, not in the way we would need him to.
Sorry, Olly, a non-story, this one.

Totally agree re. what we need – but remember Ashley is more likely to allow Benitez to sign a player he feels has big sell on potential.

He often wants players cheap, talented and young with high sell on potential – and this guy could be exactly that.

  3. They all look like great players on YouTube highlight vids. Cabella looked like Messi on YT, Messy more like when watched over 90 mins.
