Sky claim Cardiff could have £18m club record striker signed in time for Saturday’s game at SJP

According to Sky, Cardiff City are now hoping to have prolific Ligue 1 striker Emiliano Sala in their squad for Saturday’s crucial game at St James’ Park – with the club close to announcing his £18m arrival.

It would be a big boost for the Bluebirds ahead of the crucial clash and the last thing Newcastle need, considering the injuries we currently have to contend with too.

It is also a damning further the lack of investment at Newcastle, as another team breaks their transfer record around us – made even worse given they are currently our relegation rivals (a sad sign of the times..).

Sala has been a bit of a journeyman in the French top flight but has found form recently, with 30 goals in the past two years and 13 goals in 18 games already this term. Only PSG’s Kylian Mbappe being one of few French league players to outscore his this term.

At 6ft 3′ and notorious for headed goals, Newcastle will need to watch out for his clear physical presence, especially if Lascelles is missing due to injury as expected. Being a new signing, he is likely to come off the bench but regardless it will give Cardiff a massive boost and new reinforcements is something Newcastle desperately need too.

A win would be huge for our chances of survival and we need to reverse our dreadful home form, especially against sides round us, to have any chance of staying up. Rafa had a habit last season of pulling results out the bag when we needed them, so let’s hope we can do the same this Saturday.

Here’s Sala’s goals so far this season:
