Journalist reveals what ‘club sources’ are now saying with 8 days left to do business at NUFC..

According to the Chronicle’s Chris Waugh, ‘sources at St James’ Park’ are insisting that ‘at least two players‘ could still be signed between now and next Thursday’s deadline.

Whilst this could be seen as a positive update, I find it infuriating that both we, the club and Benitez find ourselves in this position once again.

It’s been well documented that Rafa not only handed over a list of potential signings well before the window began, but wanted new players to come in EARLY this month – yet here we are yet again scrambling for players that could do a job late in the day.

Here’s a snippet from the Chronicle’s piece:

‘Sources at St James’ Park insist there is still a belief that at least two players can be signed before next Thursday’s deadline.

But, with little more than a week left in the window, Newcastle are leaving it late once again to sign the reinforcements their manager is demanding.’

The pieces mentions a whole host of players that we are either ‘interested’ in or ‘watching’, as well as those who are said to have been offered to the club on loan this month.

Names include Juventus duo Kean and Spinazzola, PSG pair N’Soki and Nkunku, Iranian left-back Mohammadi and Lyon winger Territer – yet it seems clear that a club record deal for Miguel Almiron is the one big signing Benitez is desperate to make after appearing to have put in so much groundwork.

It’s time we got a move on and got these deals done – especially after news that Rafa will reject all contract approaches and quit in the summer if TWO of his targets aren’t signed.
