After several reports emerged from Belgium and Italy claiming we had agreed a deal for Jordan Lukaku, Sky Sports have now confirmed that the Lazio left-back WILL sign on loan.
Sky’s north-east reporter Keith Downie has confirmed that the Belgian international is on his way to Tyneside and will sign ‘on loan until the summer’ – with us yet to hear confirmation of whether or not an option to buy will be included in the deal.
Keith also reveals that he’s a player Benitez has been keen to sign since the window opened – suggesting he could be one of Rafa’s top targets (which would make a change!):
Lukaku – the brother of Man Utd star Romelu – has played 9 times for Belgium and was all set to be involved in their World Cup squad last summer, only for a knee injury to ruin his chances.
He can operate as left-back OR a left-winger, meaning his signing could give Rafa Benitez some much needed versatility in an area of the pitch where we are worryingly short – with alleged his pace and power likely to be a welcome addition too.
