A cynical theory behind Jordan Lukaku’s ‘failed medical’ – I wouldn’t put it past us..

I’m not usually this cynical (although we have every right to be given the way Ashley’s played us over the past 10 years), but a part of me genuinely wonders if we made a big song and dance about the Lukaku deal just to waste a few days of the window, knowing full well we wouldn’t sign him due to knee issues.

I know we’re as inept as they come, but SURELY we were fully aware that we were taking a risk regarding his knee injuries BEFORE he flew over. It wouldn’t surprise me if we initially acted obliviously towards his injury history and then used his ‘knee issue’ as a bargaining tool to get a cheaper deal!

Local journalists will insist that he’s “failed his medical”, and I’m sure that’s EXACTLY what the club are telling them to cover their backs, but I can’t help but wonder if we sometimes set up deals that are likely to falter at some stage so we can leave everything until the last few days of the window, sign the bare minimum and say ‘we tried’..

Moving on, it’s now being suggested we’ll go back in for Barreca – a player who’ll now know he’s sloppy seconds, and someone Monaco may not let go now as Jardim (who’s lined up to replace Henry) actually played him.

In addition, Ligue 1 expert @davidmcrossan isn’t a fan of Barreca and even suggested that Manquillo looked better during his time in France with Marseille – saying Monaco have chosen to play their kids or players out of position ahead of him at left-back.

Either way, we now have SIX days left of a transfer window that was meant to be key in convincing Rafa to stay and keeping us from the VERY real threat of relegation, yet we’re here as the ’19th richest club in the world’ scrambling for loan.

What a mess.

  1. His injuries history is well documented so must have been known prior to him trailing over here to fail his medical. It’s clearly been a ploy to waste more “window” time- and it’s worked!
    Hats off to Ashley.
