NUFC ‘interested’ in Cameroon star with £4m release clause – This makes no sense whatsoever..

According to Calciomercato, Rafa Benitez is interested in Cameroon international centre-back Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui – who is believed to have a release clause of €4.5m (£3.9m).

Benitez may love a centre-back, but a move to sign yet another would make absolutely no sense, making this story seem like one of the most ridiculous ones we’ve seen so far this month.

We have Lascelles, Lejeune, Schar and Fernandez – who are all more than good enough to be starting every week – not forgetting the fact Clark and Dummett are also capable options in reserve.

Ngadeu-Ngadjui may captain the Cameroon national side, and he has been tipped to play in England sooner rather than later, but he’s 28 – so he’d hardly be one Rafa would be signing for the future.

Rafa does need options at centre-back with hi using a formation requiring 3 centre halves pretty regularly this season, but surely there are more pressing positions that we need to strengthen.

We are crying out for a number 10, a striker , a back up left back and a winger , not to mention being scarily short in the centre of midfield due to injuries to Shelvey, Diame and Ki of late.

Considering Ashley seems reluctant to put his hand in his pocket , any signing will probably be a loan deal. I can’t really comment on the centre half we are linked with as I haven’t seen him play in all honesty, but surely we should be prioritising strengthening our attacking options before anything else.

  1. We have 5/6 centre backs already, I see Rafa’s thinking only 4 more to go for his defensive tactics to be fully met !!!! ??

  2. He is as hard as nails, can also play a bit so I can see why Rafa would want him, but would let someone go first…Maybe Lascelles??
