According to Atlanta United reporter Doug Robertson, Newcastle United have finally agreed terms to sign Miguel Almiron.
We will take this with a pinch of salt for now, however Robertson is a reputable Atlanta-based journalist – and he’s claiming ‘breaking news’ that the Paraguayan is now on his way to Tyneside to sign.
Here’s what he’s had to say:
‘Atlanta United and Newcastle agreed to terms on Tuesday on the transfer of Miguel Almiron, according to a person close to the player.
‘Almiron, one of the best players in MLS the past two seasons, is flying to Newcastle on Tuesday for a physical.
‘Almiron, 24, helped Atlanta United win the MLS Cup last season. In two seasons, he has scored 21 goals, added 28 assists and twice been named an All-Star.
‘He will join a Newcastle side that is fighting to avoid relegation in the Premier League. Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez reportedly made Almiron his top transfer target in the January window to try to help the team improve upon its 21 points.
‘Financial terms aren’t yet known, but Atlanta United President Darren Eales has said that he values the Paraguayan at $30 million. Newcastle, notoriously thrifty, has reportedly not wanted to offer more than $20 million.’
This comes just 24 hours after Lee Ryder reported that the deal had ‘fallen through’, however Robertson is now suggesting that the deal is very much back on.
Doug is said to be one of the more trusted sources when it comes to Atlanta Utd, giving us a glimmer of hope that a deal may have actually been struck.
Have Atlanta buckled? Has Rafa got his man? Time will tell..

Get ready for the greedy player or greedy agent excuse. How many times do sky get it wrong with us. They really should have learnt to report nothing until it’s confirmed by the club.

We only share what’s being said in the media.
Please don’t act like you suddenly knew Ashley was about to spend £20m all this time 😆 That’s more embarrassing than me reporting what’s being said by the Chronicle / Sky etc. on the deal up until last night’s huge update.
Says a lot when you’re choosing to have a pop when such good news comes out, rather than just enjoying it!
