Mike Ashley set to make Patisserie Valerie move – You couldn’t make this stuff up..

According to the Daily Mail, Mike Ashley is now considering making a bid for Patisserie Valerie – with him clearly more interested in saving another retail chain from administration than Newcastle from relegation.

Fresh after takeovers of both Evans Cycles and House of Fraser, Ashley has now been heavily linked with HMV and the Cafe chain, as he continues his crusade to ‘save the British high street.’ It is amazing how quickly and decisively he will invest in his other, primary, business interests and continue to neglect Newcastle United.

Whether he plans to use the stores merely to grow the Sports Direct presence is unclear but either way, as proven over the last 12 years – NUFC just isn’t Ashley’s priority.

The timing of this couldn’t come at a worse time, with manager Rafa Benitez continually alienated and forced into quitting the club, even next week potentially after another disastrous transfer window. Just look at this tweet we posted a week ago. Sadly, it looks like it’s about to come true – and the worst part is I’m not even surprised…

  1. I think Ashley’s intention is to buy up every failing name on the average High Street at a low, low cost (and there’ll be quite a few over this year) then put pressure on all the landlords to charge next to nothing for rent for his businesses with the threat of pulling them all out and decimating the High Streets should they not concur.
The bloke is ruthless. We don’t even figure one second in his plans, hence the reason the FA should be looking at his right to be a Premiership Club owner.
“Fit and proper”? Not in my book.
