NUFC ‘closing in’ on double loan deal – & striker could also sign – The Telegraph

According to the Telegraph’s north-east reporter Luke Edwards, Newcastle are hoping to finalise loan deals for Monaco left-back Antonio Barreca and Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris over the next 48 hours.

Both proposed moves are said to be loans with an option to sign at the end of the season, however Edwards does state that we could face late competition from Porto for Greek international Samaris – a player whose contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

The report also ambitiously claims that there’s a “strong possibility” that another striker will arrive before Thursday’s 11pm deadline, with them also backing up the Chronicle’s claims that Joselu could leave.

Personally, I can see Barreca signing on loan, but I fear Samaris will remain in Portugal and that Joselu will end up staying, with Rafa only likely to let him leave if he’s sure another striker will arrive – and let’s be honest, he can’t exactly trust Charnley and co!

If (and it’s a big if) we do manage to sign a few on loan late in the day then I can’t see Rafa walking (I don’t see how he could when he’s just convinced players to sign?), but I’m pretty sure his mind has already been made up as far as his long term future in concerned given how the club have conducted themselves in what should’ve been a season saving transfer window.

  1. The only signing at Newcastle will be Rafa resignation letter.
Good luck, and thanks for making the entire world see what a T*** of an owner we have.

  2. As we’re only allowed 2 loan signings at the same time, and already have Rondon and Kennedy I don’t see how we’re going to make any loan signings without making one (or both) of those permanent.
Can have 4 loans in total in a season but only 2 at any specific time.
We’ll sign absolutely nowt this window.

you can only have 2 loans from premier league clubs at one time 4 in max per season but we can still get loans from outside the uk no problem

  4. Why does anyone listen to anything being said about us buying anyone, its never going to happen as long as that TOTAL ARS*HOLE ASHLEY IS IN CHARGE.
    ITS ALL BULLSHIT.
maybe someone will but a rocket launcher and blown ASHLEY’S **** OUT OF THE SKY.

  5. Allan, I totally understand your frustration, but Ashley has Sky up his ****, that’s why you get all these ‘comments-for-cash’ pundits coming out of the woodwork trying to prop up his reputation.

I’m sure Rafa gave Ashley some kind of ultimatum. He would have recognised the owner’s right to not sign anyone if he wanted that, but that unless Ashley could prove his ability to get a player like Almiron, then Rafa would decide that NUFC wasn’t going to ever get anywhere under Ashley and he would conclude that there was no point in staying, so he would exercise his right not to sign on again, as well.

You make an excellent point, Olly, that if Ashley does sign Almiron (and others) then Rafa gets players in that he wants, he won’t want to ‘desert’ these players, but take the chance to work with them and see what they can achieve – but it is a very narrow little ‘project’ compared to what Rafa thought he would be supported with, …and one player with potential isn’t much of a project, …and given the vaguaries of Ashley’s duplicity (lying, cheating, bullying), then you know that Ashley could always sell Almiron out from underneath Rafa at any time. I would be disappointed for Rafa, if Ashley lied to him again and ‘conned’ him into signing. (Just imagine how good Rafa would be at Leicester or Palace or WHam, and you have to ask why would he stay at NUFC, for Almiron? for Ashley? for Pete’s sake?).
