NUFC now in talks to pull off ‘surprise permanent deal’ before 11pm today – Reliable reporter

According to the Telegraph’s north-east reporter Luke Edwards, there is a ‘surprised permanent deal‘ being ‘negotiated in the background’ by Newcastle officials today.

Edwards – one of the more reliable journalists when it comes to all things NUFC – confirms that a deal is imminent for Almiron, with Barreca and Benfica midfielder Samaris also ‘likely to sign on loan’, however the final line of his latest piece is VERY interesting.

Here’s a snippet from Luke Edwards’ transfer update, with him stating that the following deals could be done AFTER Almiron is announced:

“The other two new arrivals, Benfica midfielder Andreas Samaris and Monaco left back Antonio Barreca also likely to sign on loan and Telegraph Sport understand there is another surprise permanent deal being negotiated in the background.”

It honestly feels like we’re more willing to spend today, on January 31st, than we have been over the last 3 transfer windows since Rafa got us promoted.

Is Mike Ashley is an utterly bizarre bloke. Is he finally worried about Rafa? Are season ticket cancellations a concern? Has he left it late to try and save on wages?

Who knows, but thank goodness we are finally seeing some activity on Tyneside today!

  1. Our family of South West of England born and bred but are devoted and 24:7 Newcastle United supporters. The family has 2 season tickets in Gallowgate and as often as we can we go to home and away games. We have considered cancelling our season tickets and will do if Rafa leaves.
It is good even at this late stage that players appear to be coming in but why oh why is it always like this.. NUFC is over 125 years old…it is part of Newcastle Town history and is community…
when we come up we enjoy the town and the NUFC feel of the place. It is second home to us and everyone who knows us, we are through and through Newcastle…So from a Bristolian/Somerset person to you all at Newcastle…we are with you all the way….HOWAY the LADS…TOON ARMY/RAFE ARMY.

More than a coincidence it has happened at the same time Ashley has taken out a loan agreement with Barclays for undisclosed sums. The loans are secured against TV and central payments money we haven’t received yet.

  3. Good words Martyn but don’t forget Newcastle is a CITY (and a major one too) not a town, even though we all go to watch The Toon.

  4. Im hoping investors have told Ashley to invest in some players to keep them in the premiership. He’s borrowed money against the club from Barclays ensuring it’s not him covering the cost

  5. Ashley has ‘blinked’
He thought he was the big gambler – but, …no!
Rafa has shown him what is bigger than a gambler, a person with genuine options. He can afford to call Ashley’s bluff. He can walk, …into any well paid , well supported, well respected position in any of the major leagues around the world. The Leicester job is virtually his if he wants it.
Ashley painted himself into the corner, …all while Rafa stood next to the only door in the room, and with one hand on the handle.
But, Ashley won’t have learnt anything from this – it will all be repeated, over and over again, next year and the next, and so on.

I agree something is still happening behind the scenes, it’s not his money he is spending. Not once have I heard a quote from Kenton to say he has never been interested or has backed out this sale will happen.

  7. This is just another sneaky tactic by Ashley & Co’…
Yes, there may be some signings by 11pm tonight, but on the other hand if these transfers don’t go ahead, then Ashley can turn & say “well, atleast we tried to get players in”, then in the mean time makes a futile attempt to save some face!
Because why wait until the very last hours of the window to try & complete deals?!
Sorry Toon fans for the pessimistic look on things, but anything concerning Ashley & his minions makes me think this way!
    LOL. ??

  8. same here i am living in bristol and try and get up to watch as many games as possible, i do more away games than home games due to the cost of travelling.
i also have a season ticket in the gallowgate end, trains are so expensive now and flights up to newcastle are never before the game always between or after.
