Watch stunning unveiling video as NUFC announce club record Miguel Almiron signing

It’s official! We have finally broken our 14-year-old transfer record, with the club confirming the signing of Atlanta Utd star Miguel Almiron for a fee in the region of £21m.

The 24-year-old passed his medical after arriving on Tyneside on Wednesday afternoon, with him now signing a 5 and a half year deal at St James’ Park.

It’s been reported for some time that the Paraguayan playmaker was Rafa Benitez’s top target and although there were serious doubts that a deal would be done this month, we’ve finally pulled it off!

Here’s the club’s brilliant unveiling video, followed by what Miguel has had to say to NUFC.co.uk since making the move official:

I’m very happy and eager to start and to meet my new team mates,”

“The league is very competitive, this is a historic club, and Rafa Benitez himself were the main reasons why I am here now.”

“I think it is a great responsibility, something beautiful for me, and I will try to offer the best I can to repay the trust the club put in me.”

Almiron had been described as the ‘best players in the MLS’, with him bagging an impressive 13 goals and 13 assists last season as he inspired Atlanta to the MLS Cup.

A HUGE day for the club. Hopefully this is a huge step in the right direction that not only gives us the boost we’ve been hoping for on the pitch, but raises our chances of keeping Rafa Benitez at the club off the pitch.

Here’s our new number 10 in action:

Welcome to the club Miguel!
