As revealed by the club’s official site, Jonjo Shelvey took part in his first session with the main group today – with him now closing in on a return after missing the last 6 weeks with a thigh injury.
The likes of Ki Sung-yueng, Paul Dummett and Yoshinori Muto are also pictured back training – with the squad looking full of smiles as they’re put through their paces during the warm weather break this week.
With no game until next Saturday, a training camp made sense – with a friendly organised this weekend against Russian giants CSKA Moscow at the nearby Pinatar Arena.
Here’s some of the pictures posted on the club’s official website, showing Shelvey joining in for the first time, Almiron beaming with sweat, Fernandez’s snazzy shades and a Rafa Benitez full of smiles:
With Almiron and Barreca signing last month, Longstaff and Hayden emerging as strong midfield options and Diame, Ki, Shelvey, Dummett and Muto returning from injury, our squad is arguably as strong as it’s been all season right now.
Monday’s late sickener at Wolves was tough to take, but it’s good to see Benitez and the boys looking in good spirits out in Spain.
Hopefully it can continue to be a good week for the players and that Saturday’s friendly with CSKA goes well ahead of next weekend’s huge home clash with Huddersfield.
