Merson has had a lot to say about Almiron during West Ham vs Newcastle prediction

Paul Merson’s quickly changed his tune about Newcastle United, believing we’ve now ‘turned the corner’ – praising ‘proper player’ Miguel Almiron and insisting that we’ll get a result at West Ham this weekend:

As we all know, Merson hasn’t been the most complimentary when it’s come to Newcastle United since we earned promotion two years ago, but it seems he’s finally giving both Benitez and the team he’s built the credit they deserve – and it seems he’s already a big fan of Miguel Almiron.

Here’s what Paul’s had to say during his latest prediction piece for Sky:

“Newcastle have turned the corner, they’re quite entertaining with three up front. Almiron looks a proper player, really quick and lively.

“From Benitez being a manager who makes sure they don’t lose, he’s now going out with Almiron, Rondon and Perez and can have a go at teams.

“I’ll go for a draw here, I don’t see Newcastle losing this game.”

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1

Suddenly he’s gone from totally disregarding us in his prediction pieces to praising Rafa, saying how hard to break down we are, backing our new signing and our new-look front three as a result.

It’s typically extreme of Merson, but, in all fairness, our fortunes really have turned around much quicker than some expected, with a change in system, the emergence of Sean Longstaff and the signing of Miguel Almiron all arriving just when we needed them to.

The fact pundits such as Merson, Mark Lawrenson and Michael Owen all seeing us getting a result (with Lawro backing us to win!) at West Ham shows just how far we’ve come – with the Hammers being a club pushing for 7th after spending over £100m last summer.
