According to Lee Ryder, Newcastle have spent a lot of time scouting in Italy this season, confirming that officials have been watching Napoli striker Roberto Inglese.
The 27-year-old has been on loan at Parma this season, scoring 8 times, managing a decent tally of 25 goals across two loan spells at Verona between 2016 and 2018.
Inglese made a £9m move to Napoli just under two years ago, however he’s failed to make a single appearance for the Serie A giant – with both Maurizio Sarri and Carlo Ancelotti both opting to loan him out over the past few seasons.
Here’s what Ryder’s had to say, confirming that we’ve been to watch him during his piece on fellow Serie A target Nicolo Zaniolo:
‘United have spent plenty of time in Italy this season on the scouting front and have also checked out Parma’s Roberto Inglese.’
With 33 goals across the last three seasons – all at struggling Serie A sides – it’s easy to see why we’re having a look; especially when Napoli look certain to sell given his lack of opportunities under Ancelotti.
He looks a handy player, but a player getting in and around double figures in Italy must still be considered a real risk, emphasising the importance of paying up to sign Rondon this summer – a player we know can deliver the goods at St James’ Park.
Let’s hope he’s a potential Joselu replacement and not our cut-price alternative to Rondon.
