Sky reveal what Salomon Rondon’s done more than any other Premier League player this season..

After smashing the crossbar from a brilliant free kick on Friday night, Sky Sports have revealed that Salomon Rondon has hit the woodwork more times (6) than ANY other Premier League player this season.

With 10 goals and 5 assists in all comps this year, this shows how unlucky the Venezuelan has been, showing he’s actually come far closer than we think to hitting that 15 goal mark – something we’ve lacked in a striker for years.

In fairness, Rondon’s goals will never define the contribution he makes in this side, with his hold up play, physicality and constant work rate making him invaluable up top, but the fact he’s got into double figures on top of all that is just the cherry on top.

His performance at Leicester was another reminder of how important it is we sign him permanently this summer, with him not only coming unbearably close to a brilliant goal but putting in a fantastic all round performance in the lone striker role:

Whether Ashley likes it or not, he’s not going to replace him with anything like the same player if he goes looking abroad for a player under 25 at a fee of £15m and under.

If West Brom don’t get promoted, activating the £16.5m release is absolutely essential this summer.

He may turn 30 later this year, but in this day and age, £16m is nothing – especially not for a player who’s in the form of his life at Newcastle.

Ashley may want a younger alternative, but I hope he realises he’ll have to pay silly money to sign a Premier League proven striker capable of matching what Rondon’s done this season.
