NUFC ‘exclusive’ claims Benitez talks have ‘stalled’ – TWO clubs set to make offers?

According to the Mirror, discussions over a new deal for Rafa Benitez have ‘stalled’, with Ligue 1 duo Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille ready to make offers for the Spaniard this summer.

Several north-east reporters claimed that the gaffer seemed more upbeat in his pre-match press conference on Friday, however these claims suggest he is now closer to putting pen to paper.

Here’s a snippet from Neil Moxley’s piece for the Mirror, suggesting Benitez is now set to receive interest from TWO French heavyweights:

‘French powerhouses Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille are poised to offer Rafa Benitez an escape from his Toon hell.

‘Discussions over a new deal for Benitez have stalled and and the former Real Madridboss has been sounded out via middlemen over a potential move to France.

‘Despite claims to the contrary, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and chief executive Lee Charnley are no closer to securing an agreement with Benitez than they were several weeks ago.’

Links to a European heavyweight like PSG may strike fear into some Newcastle fans, but it still seems crystal clear to me that Rafa’s future is VERY much in our hands.

Agree to his demands and I have no doubt that he’ll stay at St James’ Park – no matter what club comes along to tempt him away from Tyneside.

  1. Ashley will be thinking he can ride anything out after this season. He maneuvered his way through mass boycotts with the promise of an imminent sale that never happened, only to pocket millions in profits from TV an Pl money at the end of this season. He will feel he can replace rafa with a cheaper yes man who can get us 17th next season with a bit of luck and the fans will just have to accept this like it or lump it. #ifrafagoeswego?

All very dramatic but a tad OTT.

He has his own “escape” lined up when he simply walks away when his contract expires, and it’s only once he’s already “free” of his Toon hell that teams such as PSG will approach him.

  3. If Ashley wants Rafa to stay he should get on and give what is required to push the club forward.

  4. Nufc11 mentions mass boycotts. He must be talking about another club. There have been NO mass boycotts and that’s part of the problem. Only by staying away will you force him out. Empty grounds speak volumes. TV companies and sponsors will hate empty grounds and no one will see the hideous S. Direct advertising which will annoy Ashley. Carry on like they have and nothing will change.
