Newcastle ‘interested’ in Championship star after 22-goal season – Report

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are one of several clubs tracking Birmingham City striker Che Adams following his 22-goal season in the Championship.

The piece suggests that Everton are preparing a £15m bid for the 22-year-old, but credits Newcastle with an interest in the former Sheffield United star.

Adams has 22 goals in 44 Championship appearances this season – a tally only been bettered by Norwich’s Teemu Pukki (28), Villa’s Tammy Abraham (25), Brentford’s Neal Maupay (24), Newcastle loanee Dwight Gayle (23 goals for West Brom) and Sheffield Utd’s Billy Sharp (23).

He’s still young and has shown his clear potential this season, however it must be mentioned that he managed just 12 goals in his last two Championship campaigns, with this appearing to be his breakthrough year from a goalscoring perspective.

A younger alternative to Gayle, but I know who I’d be signing this summer if I had £15m and my two options were Che Adams and Salomon Rondon.

Here’s him in action this season for Birmingham:

  1. Brilliant. We’ve been linked to a striker who has scored less goals in the Championship than a striker we’ve loaned out to a team in the Championship.

You couldn’t make this stuff up.

    Oh, hang on a minute….

  2. And so it begins. Every player who is available will be linked with us, when in reality Rafa will already have given his list to Chumlee. It happens every year and still people fall for it.
Then, when a player we were never actually interested in gets sold to another club, the meltdown begins and the “Rafa’s had enough, he won’t take this, he’ll be gone this week” saga starts all over again – for a player we never had any intention of signing in the first place.
300 players last summer. Interested in every one apparently.
The MSM lie about everything, why would we be any different?
Rafa doesn’t announce his targets because when all’s said and done, it’s not the brightest thing to do, is it? We can’t do bidding wars with Ashley in charge. Chances are, we won’t know anything until its a done deal.
So my advice is don’t believe the MSM. They’re selling print. The links will keep coming and going. Don’t get excited, then you don’t feel let down.

Fair point – although we do seem to have an obsession with young player with potential, and Adams is 6 years younger than Gayle, scoring a similar number of goals in a considerably poorer team.
