NUFC ‘interested’ in €15m-rated defensive midfielder after months of scouting – Report

According to Turkish outlet ‘Hurriyet’, Newcastle are showing interest in Besiktas midfielder Dorukhan Tokoz.

The story claims that we have been watching the 22-year-old for ‘some time’ and are now putting together a final scout report, suggesting he is well and truly on the club’s radar ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

Tokoz is a defensive midfielder who has shone during his first season with Besiktas, with him only signing for the Turkish giants last summer from second tier club Eskisehirspor.

It’s reported that Besiktas won’t accept less than €15m (£12.9m) for Tokoz – who recently earned his first call-up for the Turkish national side.

‘News’ from the Turkish media must be met with a pinch of salt given the amount of times their speculation surrounding Newcastle has led to nothing, however it must be said that a new defensive midfielder must be high on our agenda, with us likely to lose both Mo Diame and Isaac Hayden this summer.

This isn’t the first Besiktas we’re said to have scouted over the past few years, with Cenk Tosun (now at Everton), Oguzhan Ozyakup and Tolgay Arslan all linked over the past 18 months.

Here’s Tokoz in action following his first season in the top tier of Turkish football:
