Wolves & West Ham now trying to beat NUFC to the signing of long-term target – Report

According to reports in Portugal, both Wolves and West Ham have now joined the race to sign Newcastle target Andreas Samaris – the Benfica midfielder who almost signed at St James’ Park in January.

This is a player Rafa has been credited with an interest in for a long time now, dating back from the summer we were promoted up until the most recent winter window just a few months ago.

The 29-year-old is out of contract this summer as things stand and had been earmarked as a potential replacement for the likes of Mo Diame and/or Isaac Hayden – with both looking likely to leave in the coming months.

It’s reported in Portugal that he’s not interested in a move to Russian side Dinamo Moscow as he has ‘better offers’ from other clubs, however it remains to be seen if one of those will be Newcastle United.

He was close to a move to Tyneside just a few months ago, but if Wolves and West Ham are in fact interested (two top 10 clubs who’ll happily give him big wages) and Ashley is set to re-adopt a ’26 and under’ transfer policy, our hopes of signing the Greek midfielder may be fading.
