NUFC respond after Sky Sports confirm Man Utd’s interest in Sean Longstaff

Newcastle have responded to Sky Sports’ ‘breaking news’ claiming Manchester Utd are interested in signing Sean Longstaff this summer, insisting that the 21-year-old is NOT for sale.

The local lad has just come off the back of brilliant breakthrough season at St James’, playing a key role in Rafa Benitez’s side from the turn of the year onwards with several polished performances.

Interest from one of the Premier League’s biggest clubs is no surprise given how good Longstaff looked – with him compared to Michael Carrick by some and tipped to land an England call-up.

The club’s stance on this one seems clear, however, with Lee Ryder being one of many to confirm that he is going nowhere this summer:

Sky’s north-east reporter Keith Downie also confirms that Longstaff is ‘not for sale’, insisting that the player is ‘happy on Tyneside and has loved every minute of his breakthrough season’.

Newcastle are believed to have also told Sky that they’ve received no approach from Man Utd – but it seems we have no interest in letting our top talent leave if one did arrive.

He’s under contract until 2022, is a local lad living his dream and will know that the best place for him right now is playing week in, week out in Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle side.
