According to Sky Sports broadcaster Jim White, Wolves have ‘jumped in’ and are now ‘very keen on getting a deal done’ for Salomon Rondon – suggesting they are now ready to activate his £16.5m release clause.
The Venezuelan is currently out of the country preparing for this summer’s Copa America, waiting on a decision from Newcastle regarding a potential permanent move, however it’s become clear that we’re not the only club in the running to sign.
A £16.5m exists in his current contract after West Brom’s failure to gain promotion, and that seems to have alerted Wolves.
Here’s what Jim White’s had to say when speaking on TalkSPORT this morning, claiming Wolves are now ‘very keen’ to get a deal done:
“It is my understanding this morning that Wolves have jumped in and I’ve heard Wolves are very keen on getting the deal done.”
This backs up yesterday’s claims from the Daily Mail, who reported that Wolves have now approached West Brom over a potential deal and are ready to battle Newcastle for the signature of the 29-year-old.
The Chronicle insist that a move for Rondon will hinge on Rafa Benitez’s future, so it seems we better get a move on and give the Spaniard the contract he wants or risk losing out on our player of the season for 2018/19.
Rondon clearly wants to complete a permanent move to Newcastle, but he won’t wait around forever if he has a high-flying and ambitious club like Wolves waiting in the wings.
A £16.5m WHAT exists in his current contract?
