Newcastle now ‘interested’ in £8m David Okereke – Report

According to the Sun, Newcastle are interest in Nigerian forward David Okereke following his impressive season in Italy.

The 21-year-old has bagged 10 goals and 12 assists in 30 appearances for Spezia in their chase for promotion to the Italian top flight, with them currently 6th in Serie B.

The Sun state that scouts from all over Europe have been watching Okereke this season, claiming ourselves, Wolves, Crystal Palace and Inter Milan said to be ‘weighing up’ summer bids for the striker.

It’s believed that Spezia are ‘resigned’ to losing their academy graduate and will accept a bid in the region of £8m this summer.

This is a name out of the blue and a link that must be taken with a pinch of salt given A) It’s the Sun and B) Benitez’s future isn’t sorted out yet, although a young, talented player available for just £8m sounds like just the sort of signing we’d make under Mike Ashley’s transfer policy.

Here’s him in action this season:
