Sky Sports – Brighton all set to announce Chris Hughton replacement

Just a week on from the sacking of ex-NUFC boss Chris Hughton, Sky Sports have confirmed that Graham Potter is ‘close’ to being appointed the new manager of Brighton.

Hughton was sacked by the Seagulls just the day after the season ended, a decision that frustrated many in football and one that seems a little surprising given the potentially risky replacement they’ve now lined up.

Brighton may have ended the season horrifically, staying up by just a few points after some shocking form in 2019, but this is a man who not only promoted them to the top flight, but kept them up two seasons running and lead them to a FA Cup semi-final just a few months ago.

Potter is highly-rated, having impressed in Sweden and stabilising Swansea, delivering some good football and developing several youngsters despite having his hands tied in the transfer market, however this must be seen as a risky move.

Nevertheless, they’ve now activated his £2m release clause and a 4.30pm press conference appears to have been scheduled to announce him today.

It will be interesting to see how this works out for them next season..
