After our interest was confirmed yesterday, Club Brugge star Wesley Moraes has admitted that he’s keen to join a Premier League club this summer.
The Chronicle revealed on Monday that the 22-year-old was on the club’s radar, with Lee Ryder revealing that NUFC scouts had watched the 6ft 3′ striker on several occasions over the 2018/19 season.
This comes after the Brazilian bagged an impressive 17 goals and 10 assists in Belgium, with it reported yesterday that ourselves, West Ham and Lazio were interested in a deal
“I do not know yet.
“I have a preference for the Premier League, but we’ll see what happens.
“I have to give it a go.”
Unfortunately, you can’t help but feel Wesley is someone we’re considering as a Salmon Rondon alternative, with the powers that be clearly reluctant to pay £16.5m for a 29-year-old.
Wesley would likely cost at least £15-20m, however his age (22), potential and ‘sell on value’ will no doubt appeal to a certain Mike Ashley.
The fact he’s so keen to make the move to the Premier League could give us every chance of tempting him to Tyneside, but such an unproven and inexperienced player like should surely be brought in as competition for Rondon – not as an alternative.
