NUFC ‘interested’ in Leeds United duo – Part-exchange touted – Report

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle have shown interest in signing Leeds United duo Kavlin Phillips and Jack Clarke.

The piece suggests that we had been willing to offer Dwight Gayle in some form of part-exchange, however it seems his £55,000 wage demands have made that potential deal a non-starter.

Not only that, it’s been suggested that Gayle will hold out for a Premier League move this summer, meaning a move to Leeds may not appeal.

As for Phillips (23) and Clarke (18), the midfield duo are regarded as two of the brightest talents at Elland Road.

Phillips is a 23-year-old defensive midfielder who’s been the protective screen in front of Marco Bielsa’s back four this summer.

He’s Leeds through and through but has been tipped to join a Premier League club this summer, with the Daily Mail claiming that Norwich are planning a £12m bid.

As for Clarke, he’s a bright talent but still looks very green around the edges – which is no surprise given he’s still just 18.

I was actually at Leeds’ 2-1 defeat to Wigan at Elland Road on Good Friday and he made little impact from the bench and looking pretty raw.

That said, it would be no surprise if both are on our ‘radar’ given Mike Ashely’s said to be reverting back to a transfer blue print that sees us sign young players under the age of 25 with potential.
