Salomon Rondon set to reject Wolves, West Ham & Everton until he hears from Rafa – Report

According to the Daily Star, Salomon Rondon is delaying a decision on his next move until Rafa Benitez’s own future is sorted out.

Ian Murtagh’s piece insists that the striker’s preference is to complete a permanent move to St James’ Park, with him currently ignoring interest from Wolves, West Ham and Everton as he waits to hear if the Spaniard will sign a new contract.

This is very promising to hear, with some fearing we’d miss out on the Venezuelan even if Rafa did agree to a new deal, however this suggests that the 29-year-old will opt for a return to Tyneside should we activate his £16.5m release clause after retaining Rafa.

One thing this does highlight is the importance of Rafa’s contract being sorted out as soon as possible.

He’s clearly keen to sign, but he won’t wait around forever when there’s at least three ambitious, top 10 Premier League clubs keen to sign him in Wolves, West Ham and Everton.

We’ve reached a huge crossroads. Keep Rafa and it looks like Rondon will sign, but lose Benitez and we’ll be without at least TWO of our most influential senior men ahead of the 2019/20 season – and that would only be the start of the exodus if the Spaniard walked.
