Speaking on talkSPORT, Danny Mills has backed Man United striker Romelu Lukaku to join Newcastle United – suggesting a move to St James’ Park may be the “direction he could go in” this summer.
Mills is now making a habit of coming out with silly comments and sloppy assessments of players in his newfound punditry role, but this is a step too far – even by his standards.
Here’s what he’s said on talkSPORT when asked which club Lukaku could join next should he leave Old Trafford this summer:
“Maybe Newcastle, maybe that could be a direction that he could possibly go in“
Considering Mike Ashley is ‘reluctant’ to pay £16.5m for our 2018/19 Player of the season, I somehow doubt he will be willing to pay £60-70m plus and the £200,000 per-week wages the Belgian international would demand.
Considering Mike’s yet to even give Rafa ‘every penny generated’ by the club – and it’s now been confirmed we’ve taken £120m over the 2018/19 season – I don’t think he’s going to suddenly sign a striker likely to cost more than the budget Benitez will be given this summer.
Whether you believe Romelu Lukaku is a world class striker or not, pigs will fly before he’s pictured holding up the black and white shirt at St James’ Park.
