Benitez plans ambitious move to sign exciting Barcelona youngster – Report

According to the Chronicle, Rafa Benitez’s scouting team have been keeping very close eye on Marc Cucurella; the Barcelona left-back who’s enjoyed an impressive loan-spell with Eibar.

The speedy Spanish U-20 international has shone in his first full season in La Liga and it’s claimed that Eibar have the chance to sign him for just €2m this summer – however Barcelona are expected to exercise a €4m ‘buy-back clause’ and move him on once again this summer.

Here’s a snippet from Lee Ryder’s latest piece for the Chronicle, confirming the club’s interest in the highly-rated 20-year-old – but admitting that a deal could be difficult:

Newcastle United are understood to have been tracking Spanish Under-20 international Marc Cucurella this season.

Sources in Spain say that United are one of several clubs taking a look at the marauding left-back after a good campaign with Eibar following a season long loan deal from Barcelona.

Eibar have a €2m option on Cucurella but in a complex transfer, Barca will then considering buying him back for €4million this summer before having a look at their next move.

The piece also claims that the likes of Sevilla, Real Betis, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have been tracking the full-back, highlighting just how much competition we may have on our hands this summer.

That said, all this feels irrelevant if Rafa’s future isn’t sorted out as soon as possible. Lose him or waste any more time in the transfer market and we may miss out on several deals the Spaniard had lined up.

Here’s the marauding Cucurella in action:
