“I’d been stunned!” – Danny Mills responds to claims NUFC star is set for £25m move

After Italian reports claimed Ayoze Perez could be set to join Spurs, Danny Mills has urged the club to cash in if a big offer arrives.

This comes after Calcio Napoli 24 reported just yesterday that Tottenham were looking to sign the Spaniard for £25m this summer.

These claims are yet to be confirmed or denied by any sources close to the club, however Danny Mills has been speaking about the rumour on talkSPORT today – and he’s having none of it.

Here’s what he’s had to say, urging Newcastle to cash in during what can only be described as an ignorant assessment of the 25-year-old’s time on Tyneside:

“I’d been stunned if Tottenham signed Perez. He has been at Newcastle for five years & had half a good season.

” If you can get a big fee, sell him. I would go for it if I was Newcastle.

“He is certainly replaceable, especially if they can get decent money to invest back into the team.”

Perez has come under criticism from Newcastle fans at times over the past few years, but to say he’s only had ‘half a good season’ over the past five years is poor on Mills’ part.

He’s been our top scorer over the past TWO seasons, has got into double figures across the last three years and consistently works hard for the team – whether he’s used out wide or in a number 10 role.

Yes he went missing at times over the first half of the season and was struggling to influence the game at times, but he’s shown what he’s capable of on several occasions over the past few years – even if consistency has been missing at times.

  1. Like yourself Olly, I’m a young Magpie just turned 77, I went to my very first game with an uncle when I was 7, however I absolutely agree with your comments on Perez. Early in the season we played almost every one of the top teams; games that we would find very difficult to get points from and United although getting beaten in most of those game we never got hammered by any of them. All of the team including Perez had to play to plan some, players including Perez had to play in a way that was perhaps a little alien to them. I’m a fan of Perez and I have always argued in his favour. In my 70 years as a total Toon supporter I have never ever went to a match to to get on the backs of any of our players like some so-called supporters do now. I honestly hope the lad stays with us, but quite frankly I couldn’t blame him if he didn’t. Danny Mills comments / who cares.
