Three years on from leaving the club after 8 seasons at St James’ Park, Fabricio Coloccini is still going strong.
Despite the fact he turned 37 just a few months ago, the wiry old centre-back has just signed a new two-year-deal with Argentinian side San Lorenzo – a deal which will keep him at the club until 2021 (when he’ll be 39!).
Based on the picture below – showing him signing a new deal with the Primera Division side – you can see he’s kept that famous curly hair, but a bushy beard has added to what can only be described as a slightly more dishevelled look that he sports these days.
Colo endured a difficult start to life back in Argentina after leaving on a free in the summer of 2016, struggling with injuries and failing to get into San Lorenzo’s side when fit, however he’s quickly turned things around.
He’s now played almost 50 times over the past three seasons and, given he’s just been handed a new two-year deal, it seems he’s still a valuable member of their squad at the grand old age of 37.
It’s nice to see him settled back in his homeland. His last few years on Tyneside were disappointing, but I for one remember Coloccini as the ice-cool operator who was one of the league’s best centre-backs in that year we finished 5th.
