‘Exclusive’ claims NUFC are now keen to sign Stephy Mavididi

According to an ‘exclusive’ from TEAMtalk, Newcastle are keen to sign highly-rated Juventus striker Stephy Mavididi on loan this summer.

The piece states that we are one of several clubs keen to sign the former Arsenal youngster, claiming that Everton, Southampton, Burnley, Aston Villa, Leeds, Derby, Fulham and Middlesbrough have also shown interest.

The 6ft’ forward has been impressing in Juve’s U-23 side and earned his first appearance in their senior side last season, becoming the first English player since David Platt to play for Turin giants.

That said, I have my doubts about this in more ways than one – especially when it’s a loan move that’s mentioned here. After all, I could believe it if he was available to sign permanently on the cheap, with Mike Ashley bound to see the pound signs given his age and potential.

We have TWO domestic loan deals available to us this summer (deals that were used on Rondon and Kenedy this time last year) and one from overseas, but are we really going to use the latter on an unproven young striker who’ll be demanding regular game time?

Here’s a clip of the England U-20 international in action during his one appearance for Juventus last season:
