Former Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy is all set to be named Anderlecht’s new U-21 manager according to reports in Belgium.
HLN claim that the 39-year-old is good friends with Vincent Kompany and looks set to join him at Anderlecht, with the former Man City centre-back taking up a new player/manager role with the Belgian giants ahead of the new 2019/20 season.
This would be a surprise new job for Bellamy, with the Welshman having been out of a job since January after leaving his role as a Cardiff Youth coach after accusations of bullying and intimidation.
Bellamy denied these claims, but decided to quit, allowing a full investigation to be carried out at Cardiff – and creating a similar situation to the one Peter Beardsley had found himself in at Newcastle.
Talk of his return to coaching in Belgium have been all but confirmed by Bellamy himself on social media, with him stating “my new colleague” in a picture with Anderlecht PR Director David Steegen:
