Sky Sports – Ex-Chelsea boss now being ‘considered’ by NUFC after Rafa Benitez exit

According to Sky Sports News, former Chelsea boss Avram Grant is now under consideration at Newcastle United after confirmation of Rafa Benitez’s exit earlier today.

As if this day couldn’t get much worse.

The 64-year-old has had spells with Portsmouth, West Ham, Partizan Belgrade and Ghana since his 1-year stint at Stamford Bridge ended in 2008, with him being away from a decent job at club level for almost 10 years now.

Here’s a snippet from Sky’s piece, with them stating there’ll be ‘more to follow’:

“Avram Grant is being considered for a role at Newcastle, according to Sky sources, after the club announced manager Rafael Benitez will leave at the end of June.

“More to follow ….”

People will talk about Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger, but THIS is the sort of manager Mike Ashley and co. would be looking to appoint now Rafa Benitez exit has been confirmed.

That’s Avram Grant – a 64-year-old who hasn’t managed in the Premier League for almost a decade – and Anthony Huson – a manager who has just been sacked by Colorado Rapids – who have been linked with the job in the few hours that have passed since Rafa’s exit has been confirmed.

Unfortunately, this is what life at Newcastle United may look like if Mike Ashley remains and no takeover goes through.

  1. I’m not a Newcastle fan, but things have got decidedly grim if Avram Grant is being considered for the job. I have to admit I really thought Ashley was really going to sell this time. Is he after ALL the money he has put into the club plus a little bit extra for his trouble? Ashley is truly a nasty piece of work.
