Manager on Mike Ashley’s ‘shortlist’ speaks out after strong links him with the NUFC job

Steven Gerrard has shot down claims he’s turned down the chance to become the new Newcastle manager, saying he’s not aware of any offer from the club as of yet.

This comes after the Liverpool legend’s name has been strongly linked with the vacant job over the past 48 hours, with the Chronicle claiming he’s on Mike Ashley’s ‘shortlist’ and the Mirror reporting on Sunday night that he rejected our approach.

Here’s what he’s had to say when asked if claims he’d rejected Newcastle’s offer were true:

“Fake news. Not that I’m aware of.”

The Chronicle are adamant we’re yet to make any approach – despite the Mirror’s claim that he’s already rejected our offer – and this would make sense based on Gerrard’s latest comments.

That said, I am far from convinced he’d be willing to work under Mike Ashley.

Just look at the comments he made about our team and the running of our club last year, claiming there’s a ‘mess upstairs’ that needs to be sorted out:

If he thought that then, goodness knows what he’d think now after we’ve lost Rafa, refused to sign Rondon and sold our top scorer – all while failing to make a single signing so far this summer.

  1. I really do believe that with his upbringing in the game, young Gerrard would be a very good addition to Newcastle United, however the cesspit needs draining before any sense of normallity can resume.
    Bring on the change.
    Ashley out..ASAP.

  2. There is no chance fatty will consider any manager who is under contract with another club. Deep pockets and short arm syndrome! Are Hughes, Moyes or Fat Sam still unemployed or better still Pardspew if he has not wormed his way into FC Cincinnati!
